Puschel’s Colourful Wusel Pizza
Make four small pizzas with the same base and four toppings: Margherita, salami, ham and vegetables. You can also choose the same topping for all four.
The little story
The Tallest Topping in the Wusel Forest
Flauschi spread tomato sauce over the round dough and began making a friendly Wusel face from vegetables. Puschel’s job was to bring three little bowls of toppings.
Puschel„Three bowls must mean at least one very tall topping tower.“
He piled peppers, sweetcorn, tomatoes and courgette so high in his paws that only his little hair tuft remained visible. At the very top, one tomato began to wobble.
Flauschi„Our pizza needs toppings, Puschel—not another floor.“
Together they spread the vegetables evenly across the pizza. The final wobbly tomato became the red nose of the Wusel face. Puschel was pleased: at least his topping tower had found an excellent lookout spot.
Preparation: about 20 min · Baking: 2 × 12–18 min · Plus a few minutes cooling · Total about 50–65 min with ready-made dough; follow pack instructions
Makes 4 small pizzas: 1 each Margherita, salami, ham and vegetable
How to make them
In a few words: Make four small pizzas with the same base and four toppings: Margherita, salami, ham and vegetables. You can also choose the same topping for all four.
Ingredients
- For all four bases: 500 g ready-made pizza dough; the timing excludes homemade yeast dough
- For the sauce: 200 g tomato passata, 1 tsp dried oregano and a small pinch of salt
- For all four pizzas: 200 g well-drained mozzarella, torn into small pieces or grated
- Margherita (1 small pizza): 2–3 fresh basil leaves, added after baking
- Salami (1 small pizza): 30 g thinly sliced salami
- Ham (1 small pizza): 40 g cooked ham, chopped
- Vegetable (1 small pizza): 30 g pepper, 30 g courgette and 1 tbsp drained sweetcorn
- Also: baking paper and a baking tray; for four identical pizzas multiply the chosen additional topping by four; dough, sauce and cheese stay the same
Method
- An adult preheats the oven to 220°C conventional and lines a tray with baking paper. For ready-made dough follow the pack temperature and baking time instead; check the baking paper temperature limit too.
- Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Press each on baking paper into a thin base about 15–16 cm across, leaving a small rim. Bake only two pizzas at a time with a little space between them.
- Mix passata, oregano and salt. Spread one quarter of the sauce on each base, leaving the rim bare. Add one quarter of the mozzarella to each.
- The Margherita starts with just tomato and cheese. Add 30 g salami to the salami pizza and 40 g cooked ham to the ham pizza. An adult washes the vegetables and cuts them into thin slices or small pieces; add them with the sweetcorn to the vegetable pizza. Avoid piling toppings thickly.
- Bake the first two pizzas on the lower middle shelf for about 12–18 minutes. The rim should be golden, the base cooked through in the middle and the cheese melted. If the centre is still doughy, bake for a few more minutes. An adult removes the hot tray.
- Bake the remaining two pizzas the same way on a cool tray; carefully transfer the baking paper with the prepared bases. These quantities make one of each version. For four identical pizzas use four times the selected additional topping.
- Wash the basil and add it to the Margherita after baking. Let all pizzas cool for a few minutes. An adult cuts them into pieces; the cheese may still be very hot.
