Colourful Wusel Pancakes
Small fluffy pancakes with everyone’s favourite topping—and much less air traffic when Flauschi takes charge of the pan.
The little story
The Flying Wusel Pancake
Flauschi arranged berries, banana slices and jam neatly on the table. Puschel announced that a true Wusel pancake only became especially fluffy after seeing the kitchen ceiling at least once.
Puschel“Flipping three at once even saves energy!”
He gave the pan an enthusiastic swing. One pancake sailed above his head, one landed softly on his tail—and the third actually hit the plate perfectly.
Flauschi“A success rate of thirty-three per cent. In your kitchen, that is almost a record.”
Flauschi laughed and topped the successful pancake with berries. Puschel lifted the pancake from his tail and studied it thoughtfully.
Puschel“This one must be extra fluffy, then.”
Total: about 40 minutes (including a short batter rest and cooling). Preparation: about 10 minutes · Cooking/baking: about 25 minutes. Times are estimates.
Makes about 12–16 small pancakes
Basic recipe
In a few words: Mix a simple batter and cook small pancakes in a frying pan.
Ingredients
- 150 g plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 egg
- 250 ml milk
- 1 tsp sugar
- a little butter or neutral oil
- Optional topping: washed, chopped fruit and plain yoghurt
Wusel toppings
- berries and plain yoghurt
- banana and chocolate-hazelnut spread
- jam and fresh fruit
- cinnamon and a little sugar
Method
- Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a bowl.
- Add the egg and milk and whisk until smooth. Rest for five minutes.
- An adult heats a little butter or oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Use about 2 tbsp batter per small pancake. Cook all the batter in batches.
- Cook for about 2 minutes until bubbles appear and the edge sets. An adult turns the pancake and cooks the other side for 1–2 minutes. The centre must be cooked through. Do not taste raw batter.
- Divide between plates and let everyone choose a favourite topping.
