Puschel’s Mishaps · 28
The Great Log Splash

On a sunny day, their forest path led to a clear river. A broad fallen log reached from bank to bank, and Puschel immediately regarded it as a newly opened bridge.
Puschel“See, Flauschi? A shortcut with a view!”
He placed one paw in front of the other. Halfway across the water, however, he found a slippery patch. One foot slid away, his arms windmilled through the air and Flauschi’s eyes suddenly grew round.
Flauschi“Puschel, watch out!”
Too late: with a cheerful splash, Puschel landed in the shallow water. A moment later he sat safely among the stones, dripping from ears to tail—and began laughing with all his heart.

Puschel“The bridge has been tested. And now the river has too!”
Once Flauschi saw that he was unharmed, her alarm vanished. First she giggled, then she burst into such hearty laughter that Puschel laughed even louder.
Flauschi“We are still taking the forest path on the way back.”
Puschel“Agreed. As soon as I have wrung out my tail!”
