Puschel’s Green Wusel Ears

A little washable colour was left over from Flauschi’s sparkling green forelock. The grown-up hairdresser owl had prepared it especially and made sure it was suitable for Wusel fur.

Flauschi“Puschel, do you trust me with one tiny colourful surprise?”

Puschel“Of course. But if my nose ends up striped, I would like to sneeze once first.”

Puschel sat on the stool and closed his eyes expectantly. Wearing violet gloves and holding a small brush, Flauschi carefully painted the green colour onto the tips of both ears only.

Puschel“My ears suddenly feel very important. Are you working on them?”

Flauschi“Perhaps. Just one teeny-tiny brushstroke more.”

When the colour was finished and dry, Flauschi put aside the gloves and brush. Then she invited Puschel to look at his ears in the wall mirror and waited with a mischievous smile to see his reaction.

Puschel“Flauschi! My ears are green! They look like two fluffy lettuce leaves!”

Flauschi“Only for a while. The colour washes out again. I merely wanted to tease you a tiny bit.”

Puschel studied the left ear and then the right. His startled look lasted exactly until a mischievous grin spread across his face.

Puschel“Tease me? This is the best woodland camouflage I have ever had! If I hang upside down in a treetop, everyone will see only two especially fluffy leaves.”

Now Flauschi covered her mouth with one paw and giggled. Puschel proudly wiggled his green Wusel ears and declared himself the forest’s first leaf-listener. The little prank had turned out differently than planned—and that was exactly why they both ended up laughing.
