Puschel’s Mishaps · 36
The Wild Log-Paddling Mishap

One sunny afternoon, a fallen log stretched across the little woodland stream. Puschel carefully placed one foot in front of the other while Flauschi watched from the bank.
Puschel“See? Calm, safe and not wobbly at all!”
At that exact moment, Puschel’s foot slipped on a smooth patch. His paws began paddling wildly through the air, his tail swept in a wide arc and Flauschi’s eyes opened in alarm.
Flauschi“Puschel, hold on!”
Puschel“I’m trying! But my paws are paddling in four different directions!”
For one tiny moment, it looked as though Puschel might recover. Then came a splash, and a glittering fountain of water flew across the bank.

Puschel popped up again and sat soaking wet in the shallow water. His fur hung in little dripping points, but he was already beginning to laugh.
Puschel“The crossing was shorter than planned—but the landing was especially thorough!”
Flauschi saw that he was fine and burst into warm laughter too. They laughed together until Puschel shook the water from his tail—straight towards Flauschi, of course.
