Movement story
Puschel’s Nut Hunt
A read-aloud story for tiptoeing, stretching, balancing and searching together.

How to begin
An adult makes sure there is enough room and a clear, non-slip floor. Every movement can also be done while seated. No one has to jump.
The story
The empty basket
Puschel opened his little food basket. Puschel“Whoops! There is only a leaf in here.” Flauschi pointed towards the window. Flauschi“Perhaps we can find a nut you hid outside.” Puschel stretched right up to the tips of his ears.
Join-in cue: Slowly stretch your arms upwards. You can stretch while seated.
Quiet paws
Among the trees, Puschel tried to walk silently. His tail wiggled with excitement. Flauschi smiled. Flauschi“Your paws are quiet, but your tail tells the whole story!”
Join-in cue: Tiptoe on the spot, or tap your feet gently on the floor.
The narrow path
A narrow path ran past a fallen branch. Puschel held out his arms. Puschel“Today I can balance without a nut rolling away!” Flauschi walked beside him.
Join-in cue: Walk slowly along an imaginary line. If seated, let two fingers walk across a table.
Beneath the leaves
Puschel spotted a rustling pile of leaves. He bent down. No nut, only a round pebble. Flauschi“Almost!” said Flauschi, and they both giggled.
Join-in cue: Bend only as far as feels comfortable and pretend to pick up a leaf.
Found it!
Beside a root lay an acorn Puschel had put there the day before. Puschel“My hiding place!” he cried. Flauschi held out the basket. Puschel put the acorn inside and they gave each other a gentle high-five.
Join-in cue: Point to an imaginary hiding place, put an invisible acorn in a basket and give a gentle high-five.
Afterwards
Which movement did you like best? You can slow down or skip any part.
