The Song of the Bellflowers

Beyond Silver Stream, the trail entered a quiet vale filled with silver-shimmering bellflowers. Whenever Puschel took a step, a bright note sounded somewhere—yet never the same one twice.

Flauschi“Perhaps the flowers are looking for their song,” Flauschi whispered. Puschel sat beside her. Puschel“Then we shall listen until it finds us.”

They placed the copper star lantern between them and held paws. One flower answered the next, timidly at first, then as a little melody that matched both their heartbeats.

Puschel“Can you hear it?” Puschel asked. Flauschi leaned her shoulder against his. Flauschi“Yes. It sounds a little like us.”

A warm point of light rose from the final bellflower and slipped into the lantern as its third spark. The vale kept singing for another moment while they sat quietly side by side.
