Flauschi’s Sparkle Moments

The Bow with the Extra Pocket

Puschel’s lopsided bow suddenly has room for two hazelnuts. Will they stay put on a moonlit walk?

In the dressing room, Flauschi tucks a hazelnut into a fold in Puschel’s green scarf.
Now the bow has room for two hazelnuts.

It was already getting dark. Flauschi and Puschel wanted to take a little walk around the garden and see whether the moon had risen above the trees. The evenings had turned chilly, so Flauschi took two soft scarves out of the cupboard.

She tied hers in a bow in front of the mirror. One loop sat a little higher than the other. Flauschi tilted her head and nudged the bow a bit farther to one side. She liked it best that way.

Puschel“Can you show me how you did that?”

Flauschi slowly showed him how to make a loop with one end and wrap the other end around it. Puschel tried it himself. As he tightened the bow, he pulled the wrong end. Now there was a loop on the left, a loop on the right, and a little fold in the middle that opened at the top.

Puschel slipped a paw into the fold to see how deep it was. Then he noticed the hazelnuts he had left on the dressing table for their walk.

Puschel“Wait a second. Something could fit in there.”

He slipped a hazelnut into the fold and leaned toward the mirror to see if it showed. Out rolled the nut. It rolled right across the dressing table, and Flauschi caught it just at the edge.

Flauschi“Your pocket opened its door when you bent over.”

Puschel looked in the mirror, turned the bow a little, and tugged the fold into shape so the nut could sit deeper inside. Then Flauschi put it back. Puschel nodded carefully. The nut stayed put. He wiggled his shoulders. It still stayed put.

Flauschi picked up another hazelnut from the table and tucked it in beside the first.

Flauschi“Now it’s a pocket for two.”

Outside, they spotted the moon right behind the apple tree. Puschel tipped his head back to get a better look. This time both nuts rolled out. Flauschi caught one. The other landed right in Puschel’s paw.

Puschel“See? It even serves you.”
Under the apple tree in the moonlight, Puschel and Flauschi each hold a hazelnut in one paw.
One hazelnut each.
