The Great Cake Flight

Flauschi decorates a berry cake in the warm Wusel house kitchen while Puschel waits eagerly at the dining table
Flauschi proudly adds the final swirl of cream to the berry cake.

That afternoon, the whole Wusel house smelled of warm cake and sweet berries. Flauschi placed the final raspberry on her two-layer cake while Puschel could barely sit still at the dining table.

Flauschi“Finished! Now it only has to reach the table safely.”

Puschel jumped up at once. He wanted to help and took the wooden cake plate very carefully in both paws.

Puschel“Leave it to me. Today I shall walk so slowly that even a snail grows impatient.”

For three tiny steps, everything went well. On the fourth, Puschel’s foot caught the flat edge of the rug. He held on bravely to the wooden plate—but the cake lifted off and flew in a high arc across the kitchen.

Puschel trips over the flat edge of the rug while holding the empty wooden cake plate as the berry cake flies high through the air and Flauschi gasps
Puschel’s paw finds the rug edge—and the cake learns to fly.
Flauschi“Puschel! The cake!”

With one soft splat, cream, sponge and berries landed all around Puschel. One especially large piece settled on his forelock, while more dollops covered his cheeks, belly and paws. Flauschi knelt beside him in shock.

Puschel“I saved the plate. Apparently the cake had a different plan.”
Puschel sits startled and covered in cake on the kitchen floor while Flauschi holds her paws to her mouth beside the scattered cake pieces
The wooden plate is empty, while Puschel is suddenly wearing plenty of cake.

For one moment, everything was quiet. Flauschi looked at the empty wooden plate, then at Puschel and finally at the cake pieces on the freshly scrubbed kitchen floor.

Flauschi“Are you hurt?”
Puschel“Only my pride. And right now it tastes a little like raspberry cream.”

Flauschi began to giggle. Puschel crossed his eyes towards the berry on his forelock and soon he was giggling too. They fetched two spoons, stayed right where they were and tasted the clean pieces of cake.

Puschel and Flauschi sit giggling with one spoon each among the cake pieces while the empty wooden plate lies beside them
The cake flight becomes a giggling kitchen-floor picnic.
Flauschi“It no longer looks like a cake, but it still tastes like one.”

And so Flauschi’s celebration cake became a little kitchen-floor picnic. Later they cleaned everything together—and Puschel promised to give every rug an especially wide berth during the next cake delivery.
