The Arc of Sparks

The trail of lights led Puschel and Flauschi to a narrow stream. Its water shone silver, but the tiny sparks split into two directions at the bank.

Puschel“Then we shall take both paths,” said Puschel. Flauschi held his paw. Flauschi“Or we stay together and listen first.”

They placed the copper star lantern between them. When both touched its handle, the divided lights turned back and formed a warm arc across the water.

Puschel looked into Flauschi’s glowing eyes. Puschel“I think the path only likes us as a pair.” Flauschi smiled. Flauschi“Then the path understands us rather well.”

A second golden spark slipped from the centre of the arc into the lantern. They remained by the water for one more heartbeat, paw in paw, while Silver Stream carried their light onwards.
