The Cloth Bag

Since yesterday, a clear shelf in the low cupboard had been waiting for surprises to come. Today Flauschi put a soft cloth bag on the table. Puschel looked at it from every side. PuschelPuschel: “Is the surprise inside already?” Flauschi smiled and shook her head. FlauschiFlauschi: “Not yet. Today we’re only trying out the wrapping.”
A small, plain parcel lay beside the red storybook. Flauschi picked it up with both paws and slid it partway into the open bag. The fabric settled softly around its corners. Puschel stared in delight. PuschelPuschel: “Now the parcel has a soft coat!”
FlauschiFlauschi: “And later, the same bag can wrap something else.” Puschel studied the folds. PuschelPuschel: “Do you have to tear it open very carefully?” FlauschiFlauschi: “It’s better just to open it. Then it stays in one piece.” Puschel nodded very seriously. PuschelPuschel: “A coat you can use again. I like that.”
They took the practice parcel out once more and put it back in. Puschel realised that a small thing could almost disappear inside an enormous bag. PuschelPuschel: “Perhaps every surprise doesn’t need a giant cave.” Flauschi laughed. FlauschiFlauschi: “We can simply choose a bag that fits.”
They did not need to tie a bow today. For now, feeling the fabric and trying the size was enough. What might go inside later could wait too. Having some wrapping was not a request to finish a present straight away.
Outside, autumn leaves glowed beyond the round window. The little tags and the red pencil still lay on the table. Puschel smoothed a fold in the bag. PuschelPuschel: “Then after Christmas, the wrapping can have its next adventure.” Flauschi smiled. That little discovery was enough for today.
Your little preparation
If you like, try using a cloth bag you already have to wrap a small, unbreakable object together. Does it fit, and can you take it out again? It does not have to become a present; nobody needs to buy or sew anything.
For adults: Choose a clean, suitable bag without dangerously long loops or loose small parts. Supervise cords and drawstrings as appropriate for the child; never put them around a neck or body. Avoid fragile or sharp objects.
